This was the third reflection of the course. These questions supported my understanding of the difference between a technical description and an instruction manual or tutorial. My response is shown as a paragraph below the questions.
How much did you know about the product before we started?
How did you approach researching your product? Would you do it the same next time?
What problems did you encounter while you were working on this piece? How did you solve them?
Did the in-class activities aid you in completing this assignment?
What expectations did you have for the assignment? Did you meet them? Why or why not?
What would you change if you had a chance to do this piece over again.
Aside from the fact that the office stapler was mechanical, I did not know much about the product before we started. I approached researching my product by finding background information on the office stapler, seeing how much it has evolved, and how the contemporary version functions. I would do the same when researching the next time because once I had figured out how the office stapler operated, I was able to structure my technical description. I had a few problems while working on this piece as I was trying to find more information on the previous models of the office stapler. The data traced back to the 18th century, as a result, I had difficulty forming a solid introduction. I solved these unclear points by comparing information with another website. The in-class activities did aid me in completing this assignment because it clearly set what the assignment was about. I had a lot of expectations about the assignment because the professor informed us that a technical description differs from an instruction manual or tutorial. I believe that I met the difficult expectations by using proper visual and content, because the reader can feel guided. My technical description contained simple language but was complex enough to deepen the understanding about the office stapler. I would not change anything if I had the chance to do this piece over again.
